Place-Names

The Welsh prefix "Llan" means a circular enclosure which would have been an area of religious significance. Later on the church would have been constructed in this enclosure. At least four Herefordshire parishes - Llangarron, Llandinabo, Llanwarne and Llancillo - show place-name evidence of the existence of a pre-Norman church.
