Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford - NA&HR. Stations and halts - Hereford; Tram Inn; St. Devereux; Pontrilas and then on to Pandy, Llanvihangel, Abergavenny and on to Newport out of county. OS 6" map 1964 42 NW (2). OS 6"map 1st. Ed. 44 SE (1). The route of the act of 1846 for NA&HR had its origins in the Welsh Midland Railway of 1840s. Laid on several stretches of the trackbed of the Hereford - Abergavenny Tramway to Pontrilas and beyond, opened 2-1-1854 and used Barton station as its terminus. The through route to Newport did not open until 1874. (3 p 110).
