Upleadon Court Landscape Park, Bosbury

SMR Number
: 31236
Grid Reference
: SO 6660 4199

Upleadon belonged to the Templar/Hospitaller estate centred on the Temple Court preceptory. The orchard 200m south-east of the Court contains a three-sided moat, which could be the site of the medieval Court. Alternatively, it may represent a detached garden moat, as seen at Brinsop Court and Lower Brockhampton. The orchard is named as Far Barland Field on the 1840 tithe map, but there are no other significant features on either the tithe map or the OS 1" map. The OS 6" map of c.1886 shows a walled garden south-east of the house. A plan with a late 19th century sale catalogue shows two garden buildings built onto the inside walls of the enclosure. (1)
