Dovecote, Church House Farm, Garway

Circular building, truncated conical roof outside, flatly domed inside. Dovecote highly memorable in that it has inscription referring to fact the 'istud columbarium factum fuit per Ricardum' in 1326. (1)
Int diam 17'6, walls 3'10 thick. Original door faces SW. Inside building wall 6' high. 19 rows of holes. L shaped on Plan. Said to be circular cistern in floor (2)

Condition now.(5) The 1312 Account of John de la Haye says that the dovecote at Garway was yiedling nothing. When the Hospitallers took possession of the manor in 1324 a new dovcote was erected, the record of this can be seen on the tympanum. Probably the finest dovecote in England. (6)
